The Importance of Good Drinking Water

Water is maybe the most important element in our lives. Just think about it: 70 percent of our body is basically water. And life on planet Earth couldn't have started without water. Two thirds of Earth's land mass is covered in water.  Also, we cannot survive for more than a couple of days (three days tops) without water.

With all these facts in mind, it's pretty obvious that the quality of our drinking water is of utmost importance.

Garbage In, Garbage Out

There's an old saying among computer programmers: garbage in, garbage out, which means that the quality of the input is essential with regard to the quality of the output. And the same goes for one's water supply.

In third world countries, life expectancy is less than half compared to the US. Do you know why? The quality and availability of potable water plays a big role when it comes to one's health and well being.

Which brings us to today's article: Why should you invest in a high quality water filtration system for your home?

Public sources of drinking water in the USA are safe...right?

Just ask Uncle Sam, who regulates it for our safety. To quote Ronald Reagan, the scariest words in the English language are: I am from the Government and I'm here to help!

The sad truth is that the vast majority of America's water supply, especially in big cities, is contaminated with various substances, including chlorine, traces of nitrates, prescription medication (sex hormones, antibiotics etc.), insecticides, aluminum, various carcinogens, and more.

The list is as long as my arm. And that's because the government does not require water companies to test their "product" for all these contaminants. The state/federal level health guidelines issued with regard to our public water supply are nothing more than suggestions and/or goals, i.e. they're not enforceable by law.

Don't believe me? Click here and you can see independent tests results of the tap water in your area.

To put it simply, the usual contaminants found in our tap water are linked to increased risk of cancer, hormone disruption, developmental problems in children, brain and nervous system damage.

And if you think bottled water is the answer, think again: most of it is just purified (at best) tap water, and massively overpriced.

Even if it's purified, everything depends on the purification method used by the company that bottles it, not to mention that plastic containers leak chemicals into the water, the likes of phthalates and other stuff used in manufacturing plastic bottles (read bisphenol A or BPA, a known hormone mimicker/disruptor linked with immune system issues, behavioral problems, cancers, obesity, early puberty etc).

Also, don't get me started on the effect billions of plastic bottles have on the environment every year.

Bottom line, if you want to play it on the safe (and smart) side, "make your own luck" so to speak, and go for a high quality water filtration system.

If you take into account how outrageously expensive bottled water is compared to tap water, you'll understand that a state of the art water filtration system, which may cost you a few hundred bucks, is the way to go long-term.

In terms of both water-purity (your health, basically) and economy, there's no better solution than a water filtration system for your home, especially one that comes with all the bells and whistles (read NSF certifications) and provides you with the full list of contaminants it removes, like Multipure does.

Here are the main reasons to use a water filtration system for your home (or on the go for that matter):

1. Better tasting water

A high quality and affordable water filter (like the best-selling Multipure Aquaversa) will provide your household with better tasting and smelling water, by removing chlorine and various contaminants (including asbestos, arsenic and benzene), together with dangerous parasites like Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Entamoeba and Toxoplasma.

Just look at what happens to the filters that are purifying your water over time:

Used Multipure Filter Cartridges

2. Contaminant removal, mineral retention

These solid block carbon water filters (like the arsenic-removing Multipure Aquaperform) are capable of selectively removing dangerous components from your water supply, while retaining important minerals, thus helping protecting your body from disease, while improving one's overall health.

3. Better Hydration

If you drink at least 8 glasses of pure water a day, your skin will be better hydrated, you may experience weight loss, detoxification, better nutrient absorption and improved overall health. Remember what I told you in the beginning: garbage in, garbage out.

4. Substantial Savings

You'll save a lot of money in the process. Just think about it: since tap water is basically free of charge (read dirt cheap), make a simple calculation on how much you spend annually on bottled water vs how much it costs to install and use a Multipure water filtration system, even the most expensive version, the Multipure Aqualuxe respectively.

According to "experts" (that would be you if you put your mind to it), bottled water is 2000 times more expensive than tap water, and the average American spends approximately $100 on bottled water. A Pure Block technology water-filter cartridge (like the one inside the Multipure Aqualuxe Kitchen Drinking Water System) will provide you with 500 gallons of pure water before requiring replacement, and it costs $150. Street vendors charge $1 for bottled water (16.9oz/500 mL), and up to $5 at a ball game. Just do the math.

5. Peace of Mind

Using a Multipure water filter, you'll benefit from healthier water compared to your garden-variety bottled water. Let me explain: bottled water is defined as food, hence it falls under the FDA's supervision, while tap water is under the authority of the EPA.

To make a long story short, the EPA has much stricter standards, i.e. water companies must provide their customers (that would be you) with all sorts of daily tests with regard to water purity, especially when it comes to harmful microbiological contaminants. Bottled water companies don't have this problem, as they're only required to test for bio-contaminants once a week. The same goes for chemical water contaminants (public water systems must test 4 times as often compared to bottled water companies) and so on and so forth.

The Bottom Line

The lesson to be taken home is this: play it smart and go for a water filtration system, like Multipure, which has a ton of NSF certifications, they're certified to really remove everything from your water supply, from chlorine to pharmaceuticals and pesticides.

  • We have a whole house water filtration system from Pure Water. Our filters look this bad after 4-6 months, and we are on city water. The filters we use are supposed to be used for a well system. Do not believe that your municipal water is safe!

  • I like to see instalation in real time before I make a decision.
Are you showing this at Home Shows, or can I come to a seminar?
I am in Fort Worth, TX.
I am a technical minded person and have to see the tools needed to install these.
    Thank you for yur consideration.

  • Francesca,

So sorry to hear about your condition. I don’t know the specifics of your situation or the exact contaminants that may be in your drinking water, but your story is one reason why I recommend that no one drink unfiltered tap water. You just never know what may have leached into your local water supply. Even if your municipality has a reputation for clean water, something like a pesticide runoff from a farm or in your case, an oil spill, can have awful effects and go unnoticed. That’s why I believe so strongly in our solid carbon block filters — they will handle most of these concerns. Plus, even the chlorine or chloramines that are in virtually all municipal water supplies have been linked with higher rates of cancers.

I wish you and your family the best of luck with your situation.

  • 2015 I was diagnosed with a very rare Cancer,No cure. Polythycemia Rubra Vera/secondary Leukemia.. I know for a fact it was from the oil from the boats that spilled or drinking water.
